PittPharmacy’s Student Society of Health System Pharmacists (SSHP) Chapter received the Outstanding Professional Development Project Award for their Poison Prevention Professional Project at the 2017 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition in Orlando, Florida this past December. SSHP project leaders were Shrey Parekh, Rachel Cartus, (Class of 2019), Caylee Sams (Class of 2020), Jordan Serio and Kara Ioannou (Class of 2019).

The chapter’s poison prevention project focused on PittPharmacy’s efforts in educating young children and adolescents on poison prevention within their community. The project involved the use of a SimMan demonstration on poison prevention and naloxone administration. Mr. Yuk, the poison prevention symbol, was also used during events involving younger students.

The SSHP Outstanding Professional Development Project Award was based on the following criteria: content and information, creativity and resourcefulness, service, outreach and impact, and overall impression.
