Alexander J. Prokopienko, PharmD, is the recipient of a 2017 National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Loan Repayment Program (LRP) Award from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

The objective of the NIH LRP is to support development and retention of highly qualified health professionals into biomedical research careers by repaying a percentage of a researcher’s qualified educational debt. Prokopienko received the award for his project entitled “Effects of the Intestinal Microbiome and Microbiota-Derived Toxins in Kidney Disease”.

Prokopienko is a fourth year PittPharmacy graduate student in the Clinical Pharmaceutical Sciences track. His primary advisor is Associate Professor Thomas D. Nolin, PharmD, PhD.
