Hannah Renner, PharmD, received a grant from the Community Pharmacy Foundation (CPF), a national non-profit organization that provides funding for studies directly associated with community pharmacy practice and the advancement of patient care services by pharmacists. Renner received the grant to complete a study entitled “Utilizing Community Pharmacy Prescription Dispensing Data to Impact Opportunities for Pharmacist-Prescriber Collaboration”.

CPF funds studies that highlight new and emerging patient care innovations that are sustainable, transferable, and replicable in community pharmacy practice. Current literature does not address how pharmacists in the community can initiate collaborative working relationships with prescribers in a systematic, data-driven way. Renner’s study will assess the utilization of community pharmacy dispensing data presented in an info-graphic to initiate pharmacist-prescriber collaboration. This study builds upon a pilot project completed by Joni Carroll, PharmD who served as the Pharmacist Practice Development Fellow at PittPharmacy in the 2016-2017 year.

Ultimately, a Collaboration Toolkit will be built that will enable pharmacists nationwide to employ this systematic approach to utilizing dispensing level data available at any community pharmacy in the United States to successfully collaborate with prescribers in their region.

Renner will serve as Primary Investigator for the project and will complete the study with faculty support from Melissa Somma McGivney, PharmD, FCCP, FAPhA, Associate Dean for Community Partnerships and Professor Kim C. Coley, PharmD, FCCP.
