PittPharmacy faculty, staff, and students traveled to Glasgow, Scotland to present their poster at the 2018 FIP (International Pharmaceutical Federation) World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The team of Associate Professor Amy L. Seybert, PharmD, FASHP, FCCP, CHSE, Instructional Development Specialist Lawrence R. Kobulinsky, PharmD students (Class of 2020) Kathy E. Monangai and Madison McConnell presented research poster Innovative Recruitment Efforts by Students and Faculty to Diversify the Profession of Pharmacy. The innovative nature of this project involved using SimMan technology in efforts to recruit high school students to the field of pharmacy.

Monangai and McConnell became involved in the project through their work as RxAmbassadors. PittPharmacy’s RxAmbassadors are student pharmacists who work with  the school’s Office of Student Services to recruit students to PittPharmacy. Goals of the RxAmbassadors are education and recruitment of high school students to the field of pharmacy and to enhance diversity and inclusion within the field. Recruitment events are in the process of expanding outside of the Pittsburgh area to include high schools in Eastern Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, New Jersey and international areas.
