Sean Xie with his computer system for research

Associate Dean Xiang-Qun (Sean) Xie and his laboratory have discovered six already marketed compounds that have high probability of inhibiting COVID-19 replication. This was accomplished by a multi-disciplinary team, Sean Xie (structure-based drug design and synthesis), ZW Feng (computer modeling), MZ Chen (Programmer) and Y Xue (clinical pharmacy).  His team has constructed a new virus chemogenomics knowledgebase platform with the integrated machine-learning computing system pharmacology TargetHunter algorithms, and identified the compounds and potential drug combinations.  They are proceeding with partners for translational studies to test the drugs in vitro and in clinical trials
