Philip E. Empey, PharmD, PhD, director of the Pitt/Thermo Pharmacogenomics (PGx) Center of Excellence PGx was interviewed by Genomeweb and CAP to highlight the PittPharmacy team efforts to implement PGx testing for up to 150,000 individuals in the UPMC system. Together with Clinical and Translational Science Institute, the Institute for Precision Medicine, and the UPMC Genome Center the effort will return results researchers and to participants through their electronic health record. The study will measure the impact of testing on healthcare utilization/spending, demonstrate clinical utility and economic value, develop new standards for return of results, and inform best practices for patient education.
