A team made up of students from three of the Schools of Health Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh placed second against 20 other universities in the annual CLARION competition. The CLARION competition is an annual nationwide interprofessional health system based competition hosted by the University of Minnesota.
The competition comprises of forming a root-cause-analysis of an assigned problem affecting the health care fields and then presenting and defending the proposal live (online this year) in front of a panel of experts. This years’ team from the University of Pittsburgh won second place, and consisted of students from the Doctor of Nursing program (Siew Lee Grand-Clement), Occupational Therapy (Rachel Eilers), Physical Therapy (Shakari Cunningham) and Pharmacy (Mujtaba Mahmud). Faculty advisors included Dr. Victoria Hornyak from the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences and Drs. Smithburger and Patel from the School of Pharmacy.
This years’ challenge involved creating a place of “Radical Belonging” to help combat burnout from the covid-19 pandemic.
