Maria Lowry, PharmD (’15), BCPS, BCGP represented Pitt Pharmacy and UPMC Palliative and Supportive Institute at the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM) 2022 Annual Assembly, giving four presentations highlighting her teaching, clinical, and research efforts.

Along with other colleagues from different US institutions, she presented an educational seminar surrounding benzodiazepine use in delirium for palliative care populations. Additionally, she presented research surrounding her work in the outpatient clinical space at Hillman Cancer Center: Pharmacist interventions surrounding medication prescribing across care transitions.

Lowry was also the primary author for a poster surrounding the development and validation of a palliative care performance-based student pharmacist assessment tool and senior author in examining readmission rates for patients seen by a clinical pharmacist in a pharmacist-led transitions of care clinic.

Lowry is an assistant professor in Pitt Pharmacy’s Department of Pharmacy and Therapeutics. She is also a palliative care clinical pharmacy specialist at UPMC Palliative and Supportive Institute.
