Assistant Professor Carolyn T. Thorpe, PhD, MPH, and Associate Professor Joshua Thorpe, PhD, MPH  are co-investigators on a Comparative Effectiveness Pilot Grant award from the RAND-University of Pittsburgh Health Institute (RUPHI), entitled, Use and Discontinuation of antidementia drugs in a national sample and perspectives from regional stakeholders. Dr. Nicole Fowler in the Pitt Division of General Internal Medicine and Dr. Andrew Parker from RAND are co-Principal Investigators.

This project will use national Medicare claims data to identify the factors that predict the initiation and discontinuation of antidementia medications, and employ semi-structured interviews with patients, caregivers, and providers  to understand the structure and elements of the decision-making process regarding the use of these medications.
