PittPharmacy_AkhilPatel_0036PittPharmacy Graduate Student Akhil Patel was selected to give an oral presentation at the  Society for Biomaterials (SFB) 2015 Annual Meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina, April 15-18. Patel spoke at the session entitled “Biomimetic Materials for Tissue Engineering”. The title of his presentation was “Biomimetic Fibrous Hydrogels with Aligned Hierarchical Structure Promote Biomineralization in vitro.” The hydrogel materials showcased in this research mimic hierarchical structure of collagenous extracellular matrix in vivo; rendering these hydrogels highly bioactive in promoting mineralization in vitro.

SFB annual meeting is the key conference exhibiting the cutting edge of biomaterials science from a variety of disciplines. SFB 2015 hosted 1,400 of the nation’s leading experts in the biomaterials science.

Assistant Professor Shilpa Sant, PhD, in the department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy, is Akhil’s faculty advisor.
