Katlyn Grossman (Class of 2016) was chosen for the May 2016 Walmart/Pharmacy Times RESPy award. The RESPy Award program is designed to recognize pharmacy students nationwide for extraordinary humanitarian work in the community. As noted in her acceptance letter, “RESPy winners inspire future pharmacy leaders with their actions whether it’s improving access to medicine for the homeless, developing adherence programs for care facilities or coordinating responses to natural disasters.” Grossman is one of only ten winners to be selected for the RESPy award.
According to Grossman’s faculty advisor, Assistant Professor Lauren Jonkman, PharmD, MPH, BCPS, “Katlyn oversees and leads a team of medical and pharmacy students of different levels at the Birmingham Free Clinic to provide high quality patient care and access to medicines on site. PittPharmacy students have made lasting relationships and have seen major clinical improvements including A1C reduction and blood pressure control. In addition to Katlyn’s service at the student run clinic, Katlyn spent at least ½ day each week volunteering a the Birmingham Free Clinic during her P3 year. She embraced her role as patient advocate and problem solver. She personally ensured access to necessary medicine for a large number of patients through her service.”
